Our Diversity is Our Strength

  • Delivered online via Zoom New Zealand (map)

Our Diversity Team: Jenny Nand, Stefan Doll, Nate Bramwell and Teresa Lange

Enhancing the capacity and capability of our organisations and people within them by supporting organisations to build teams strong in diversity is the intention of this Free Workshop. This will be presented by experts in Teams, Migrant Community, Gender and Sexuality and Conflict in Communication.

The workshops are to be 20 minutes with a follow up 30-minute guided breakout sessions for participants to discuss and reflect on what they heard then head back for a group discussion.

Jenny Nand, Community Waikato Trustee: Inclusive Community Design.

This workshop will have two tier approach. The first part will provide a context of contemporary Aotearoa by exploring

  • How are New Zealand’s demographics changing and what will a future New Zealand be like?

  • How does the increased ethnic and cultural diversity impact on the way we engage with a range of ethnic, language and religious communities?

The second part will explore the following question in an interactive manner:

  • How can community organisations adopt an inclusive community design process to effectively engage with diverse communities?

  • How can community organisations effectively include the voices and perspectives of diverse communities?

Stefan Doll, Diversity Institute: How can diverse teams be more effective?

Our relationships with colleagues determine to a great extend how we feel about our jobs, ourselves, and others in our teams. At times it can be challenging to navigate an increasing cultural diversity on top of personality differences. How can each team member play to their strengths and help to develop a resilient, collaborative and highly effective team?

Nate Bramwell, Waikato Queer Youth. Gender and Sexual Diversity

Understanding gender and sexual diversity, and the identities that exist within our rainbow communities is essential for best practice and relationships within your professional or community organisation. This workshop is an exploration of gender and sexuality, and how being aware of diversity relates to your organisation and empowers your interactions with others.

Teresa Lange: Resolving conflict and developing communication in intercultural workspaces

As an intercultural communications development and engagement coach, Teresa will first give a short introduction on important and useful communication theories. With playful activity-based exercises, participants will then be encouraged to resolve situations of conflict. The group will gather feedback rules as well as the Do’s and Don’ts in order to increase awareness and perception of self and others. This hands-on approach will enable participants to establish an inclusive and open-minded work ethic, which will benefit not just professional but private life as well. This will be a safe space for discovery and discussion, where relationships are fostered and mediated. With empathy, openness and transparency, this workshop will empower and inspire participants on their individual journeys.
