CE Update November 2024

As we approach the end of what has been a challenging but productive year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our journey and share some key updates.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the passing of our Kaumatua, Taki Turner, earlier this year. His wisdom and guidance are deeply missed, but his cultural guidance continue to inspire us in all that we do. We carry his legacy with us every day.

This year, we also said farewell to Gary Thompson, our Kaiwhakarite, who has taken up an important role with Hei Ahuru Mōwai. However, we're fortunate to still have him close, as he maintains an office here at Community Waikato—so it's almost like he never left!

One of the greatest strengths of our sector is the value of collaboration. This year, we worked alongside Go Eco, Creative Waikato, and The Wellbeing Project to deliver the Thriving Communities event, which was a huge success. We're also developing a Leadership Day for the sector in partnership with the Good Day Matrix and The Wellbeing Project. Additionally, we are excited to be part of a new collaborative project, led by Creative Waikato, which focuses on building community connectivity. These partnerships enable us to pool resources, knowledge, and strengths, ensuring we achieve greater impact together than we could alone.

Another significant milestone for us this year was our move to a new venue in April. We are now settling into the space and still have room for others. If you are looking for a place to rent, we have offices, hot desks, and open-plan areas available.

As we head into the holiday season, I want to thank you all for your hard mahi throughout the year. Whether you’re taking a well-deserved break or continuing to work, I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and look after yourselves. Let’s continue to support each other as we move forward into the new year.
