Thriving at Work

  • Community Waikato 33 Victoria Street Hamilton, New Zealand (map)

Presented by Dr Maureen Marra and InLeadership

Being able to thrive at work is more than simply a case of feeling well at work. Thriving at work extends far beyond wellness because it includes feelings of optimism, enthusiasm, fulfilment, and purposefulness. Such positive feelings are manifested through having opportunities to grow one’s knowledge, to develop new skills, and to create new opportunities that are professionally and personally enriching. Also, thriving at work is not only about enjoying the work but also enjoying the people you work with. And from all of this, thriving emerges.

But alas, this is not the norm in many workplaces. According to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace: 2022 Report, the second highest key finding is that employee stress is at an all-time high. Many employees aren’t thriving at work. In some workplaces, more than 80% of the employees left their work due to unwellness and stress.

Stressed employees are seriously un-well and unable to be fully engaged. High levels of stress is accompanied with depression and mental anxiety as affected employees struggle to cope with the daily grind of being in an environment where they are simply unable to thrive. Although it is now commonplace for organisations to have ‘wellness’ polices, the trend of increasing unwellness continues. You can’t mandate wellness through policies. Knowing how to create a healthy, thriving workplace culture is the only way to ensure workplace wellness.

This workshop provides insight into the factors and practises that allow people to THRIVE at work.
